The TMNT are headed back to your console!

Several sources are reporting that Nickelodeon has sent out a press release stating that a trilogy of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles video games will be released partnership with Activision (Call of Duty, Skylanders) as developer and publisher.

In a statement sent to VG247, Nickelodeon confirmed that the “multi-year” would see Activision developing and publishing three new games tied to the series.

Sherice Torres, senior VP of entertainment products at Nickelodeon said of the deal, “Activision is a leader in the gaming industry and we are honored to have them as the global video game partner for our new hit series Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

“We are confident that these upcoming games will take gamers through interactive environments and action-packed adventures that truly capture the essence, tone and exciting elements of the Turtles.”

Kurt Niederloh, VP of Activision Publishing Minneapolis added, “The fans of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are unique in that they span generations and are very passionate. We respect this passion and look forward to working with Nickelodeon to create games that embody the spirit of the property.”

All sources indicate that the first title is supposed to hit by summer 2013. No platforms have been announced.

This news confirms Nickelodeon’s previously rumored partnership with Activision, leaked by Playmates Toys marketing materials at last years New York Toy Fair.

UPDATE: I will predict that the titles will not follow a consecutive storyline (ie. TMNT 1, 2, 3) but will simply be variants on existing genres (TMNT Racing, TMNT Action, TMNT Fighting). While I would prefer the former over the latter, I’m excited either way!
